My Background

I've been programming, in various languages, since 1972. I started out with FORTRAN on an IBM OS/360 at Penn State. Over the years I have worked with various test systems, each with their own unique language; built applications in dBASE; been a Network Administrator for five years; worked with SAS; and Digital Equipment computers, among many other tasks, all with my hat labled "Supplier Quality Engineer". I have been working with HTML since 1993.

I became the Webmaster for Seminole County Gun & Archery Association around 1998. I wound up developing the first site for the Mount Dora & Lake Eustis Railway shortly after they started up in October of 2003. This is when I realized that there is a need for someone to assist the independent business in developing and maintaining a website on a level that works for them.

Since then, I have had quite a few people ask about building websites... I keep my coding as simple as possible to accomplish the task. This makes it both easier to maintain and understand. I prefer not to use point-and-click programs that create verbose code which may or may not work correctly on all machines. I use HTML, PHP, and some JavaScript, coded by hand. I believe in the K.I.S.S theory!

I'm from the old school. I believe in fairness for both the supplier and the customer. While many developers will charge a base rate to do three pages or ten pages, my fee will cover as many pages that I can complete in the stated time frame. I do not charge a blanket rate, I charge for actual work done. Blanket rates may be easier for other developers, but if your job happens to take only 2 hours to build or make modifications, I only charge for two hours...

As Administrator, I keep tabs on your website. If I happen to see that your server is down, I'll contact the hosting company to get a timeframe when it will be back up. If I feel that something is out-dated, I will contact you to let you know and find out what you would like to do. My main intent is to assist the independent business in getting their business on the web.
